The Czech Republic is interested in the flood adaptation solutions of the LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Project.

28 April, 2026

The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Project participated last April 23rd in a technical meeting with an institutional delegation from the Czech Republic, in the framework of an official visit to Spain focused on water management and flood risk adaptation. The meeting took place in Tarragona, and was organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Spain.

The Embassy specifically contacted the project through the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE), with the aim of learning first-hand about the actions carried out in the middle section of the Ebro and to establish a networking and technical cooperation action.

Project presentation and technical dialogue

The project was presented by David Gargantilla, CHE technician and technical coordinator of Ebro Resilience, and Carolina García, also a CHE technician and member of the LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 team.

The Czech delegation was represented by representatives of:

– The Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, responsible for water planning and water management.
– The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Spain, promoter of the meeting.
– Czech Technical University, with specialists in hydraulic engineering and risk management.
– Public agencies involved in watershed management, flood protection and territorial planning.

During the session, topics such as the river dynamics of the Ebro, adaptation actions, social participation and the progress of the project in terms of resilience and risk reduction were discussed.

International networking: a strategic axis of the project

The meeting is part of the line of knowledge exchange and replication of results of LIFE Ebro Resilience P1, which since its inception maintains an intense networking activity with:

– LIFE projects in other European countries, especially in the area of flooding and river restoration.
– National initiatives and Basin Organizations.
– Specialized European forums, such as the European Commission’s Working Group on Floods (WGF).

These actions allow sharing methodologies, comparing experiences and promoting the transfer of solutions applicable to other territories.
The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 (LIFE20 ENV/ES/000327), co-financed by the European Union, develops actions for adaptation to flood risk, recovery of river space, environmental improvement and strengthening of social capacities in the middle and lower reaches of the Ebro, in collaboration with the administrations of Aragón, Navarra and La Rioja.
