This April, one of the most attractive lines of actions for strengthening social capacities and increasing knowledge about the river was launched. Journalism students from the faculties of Aragon, students from the high schools of Alfaro and Castejón or technicians from other projects have already made interpretative descents with us.
The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 project has a comprehensive social capacity building plan, a document that gathers different proposals for interaction with sectors of the population to increase knowledge about the river, about the tools for self-protection against floods, about the competences of the Administrations, etc.
The objective is to offer society new ways to participate more consciously in the construction of solutions to the effects of flooding in the middle stretch and to generate new interaction networks.
One of the most attractive proposals for all audiences is the realization of interpretive descents that allow to know sections of intervention of the project or the Ebro Resilience Strategy from within the river itself. A new look that many have not had the opportunity to enjoy until now and that from the LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 project has been launched for professional sectors (education, communicators, primary sector…) and for the general population.
With the collaboration of a specialized company, EbroNautas, a safe navigation is carried out, which combines the recreational aspects of the experience with the educational aspects regarding the fluvial ecosystem, the actions already carried out previously and the proposals of the LIFE project.
In addition, an informative and educational stop is included with educational materials on flora, fauna, thematic cards and even a game that teaches us some questions about land management, as a main measure to reduce the risk of flooding.
This April these descents have been launched and we have already sailed in the Ebro Resilience with:
- Students from the faculties of Journalism of the University of San Jorge and the University of Zaragoza
- Students from the Gonzalo de Berceo High School in Alfaro (La Rioja, Spain)
- Students of IESO Castejón (Navarre)
- LIFE Kantauribai project technicians
