The actions have made significant progress with the closing of the main interventions in the town of Alfaro, in La Rioja, and the start of actions in section 2 of the project, in the province of Zaragoza.
The first planting phase carried out last February has already shown its effectiveness in flood events. A total of 21,100 specimens will be reached between the two phases, which apply techniques that mimic the natural distribution of riparian vegetation.
Both the participation plan and the proposals to increase social capabilities and knowledge about floods have teachers and other educational profiles as a key sector. For this reason, specific actions are started with them, such as the one aimed at analyzing the material that is being prepared for schoolchildren.
After a year of work, this phase of the intervention in Alfaro (La Rioja) by the CHE has concluded and all that remains is the river restoration to be carried out by the Government of La Rioja.
During this time the meander of La Roza, in Alfaro, has been recovered as a river space and has generated a new protected area in La Rioja and more than 40 participatory actions have been carried out, most of them related to new forms of involvement of the population that represent a milestone at European level.
The actions planned for the river and the proposals for participation and capacity building have passed through the plenary and parallel sessions of the IV Iberian Congress on River Restoration, the most important event on river restoration in Spain and Portugal.
The new tool will allow the exchange of images related to the monitoring of the project interventions and to have references of their behavior after their completion. To identify the different functionalities of the project he held an online meeting
We celebrate the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network. The land reclaimed for the river, a total of 22 hectares, has been incorporated into the Natura 2000 Network "ZEC Sotos y Riberas del Ebro" through Decree 46/2022 of August 17 of the Government of La Rioja.
We held the open forum on future recreational uses on the land of this meander recovered as a space for the river with the participation of new stakeholders in the adaptation measures and natural spaces.
