Rivers and floods AUDIOVISUAL CHILDREN. Be prepared for floods

The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Project has launched a new informative video for children, with the Orbe droplet as the main character. This audiovisual resource explains the water cycle, the value of river ecosystems and the phenomenon of floods, to transmit to the youngest that knowledge allows them to take care of the river and adapt to extreme phenomena.

This video adds to the wide variety of informative and educational materials that the Project has developed, paying special attention to the educational sector.

The materials are part of the key actions defined in the LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Social Capacity Building Plan. The education sector was identified as a crucial target for a specific program.

The main objectives of this plan are to improve the riparian population’s knowledge of the flood phenomenon, to promote resilience and self-protection measures to reduce the negative effects of floods, and to create citizen networks and spaces for analysis and participation.

The guiding principle is clear:an educated and informed society is a society that is better protected and adapted to extreme events.

To achieve these objectives, the project has worked closely with teachers, environmental educators and riparian population through co-creation groups (which bring together stakeholders and project technicians), and other means of participation, resulting in an ecosystem of materials adapted to different levels of education (pre-school, primary and secondary):

1. The story “The colors of the Ebro”: The little drop Orbe is also the protagonist of this story, which tells the adventure of the water cycle. The story is mainly intended for students in kindergarten and first cycle of primary school, with an activity guide. This material, published specifically for this project, is included in the didactic suitcases.

2. TheInundable Board Game: this game is an educational resource intended for the third cycle of primary school and first year of ESO. Inundable is a strategy and collaborative game that uses situation cards (floods, droughts, floods) to address flood risk, management measures and the concept of land use planning.

3. Educational Exhibition for Schools: in 2025 an informative exhibition was launched that is touring the schools of the municipalities in the intervention areas, aimed at the entire primary school cycle. This exhibition uses a vinyl carpet and information panels to carry out two main activities: “Explorers of the Ebro River” (1st to 3rd grade of primary school) and “Ebro River Mission” (4th to 6th grade of primary school), which seek to discover the importance of water, biodiversity and flood risk management.

  1. Interpretive descents: within the training that combines online and face-to-face sessions for teachers, the interpretive descents have a special role to play in order to get to know the river from the inside. Secondary school students are also enjoying this activity, which allows them to get to know the project intervention sections from the river itself, including informative and educational stops about the river ecosystem.

5. Suitcases and Didactic Units: all this material is integrated in didactic units that identify basic contents related to flood risk management. These are complemented with six types of teaching kits, adapted to the needs of each level (from Infant to 3rd and 4th ESO), which contain all the necessary resources to carry out the proposed educational activities.
