The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Project is organizing, on October 25, a new interpretive trail between Castejón (Navarra) and Alfaro (La Rioja) to bring the public closer to the Ebro River, explore its landscape, and better understand how flood risk is managed along this stretch of the river. This is the third such tour organized in this area for the general public.

Discover the Ebro
Throughout the tour, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the natural and scenic values of this stretch of the Ebro River and gain insight into some of the initiatives and approaches being developed as part of LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 to restore riverine habitats and improve adaptation to flood risk.
Beyond learning about specific actions, the tour aims to create a space for learning and dialogue about the river, how it functions, and how to live with flooding, using the territory itself as a source of knowledge.
The activity is part of the LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 Social Capacity-Building Plan, which aims to improve the knowledge and capacity of various groups and the general public to participate and cope with challenges related to flood risk.
The route between Alfaro and Castejón runs through one of the sections where LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 is working to restore riverine habitat and improve adaptation to flood risk.
Among the initiatives carried out in this area is the morphological restoration of the La Roza meander in Alfaro, and the environmental restoration of Soto de Alfaro, as well as the future project planned for the El Señorío meander in Castejón.
These interventions are part of a strategy that aims to analyze the river on a section-by-section basis and identify solutions that work together as a whole, tailored to the characteristics of each location.
This activity will allow participants to explore this region from a different perspective and gain insight into some of the changes taking place in the Ebro region.
LIFE Ebro Resilience P1
The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 project (LIFE20 ENV/ES/00327) is funded by the European Union’s LIFE Program and aims to help reduce the impacts of flood risk in the middle section of the Ebro River.
The project is being carried out in La Rioja, Navarre, and Aragon and brings together the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Ebro River Basin Authority, TRAGSA, and TRAGSATEC; the Government of La Rioja; the Government of Navarre, through OREKAN—Environmental Management of Navarre; the Government of Aragon; and the Aragonese Water Institute.
