{"id":9338,"date":"2023-12-29T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-29T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/?p=9338"},"modified":"2024-01-19T10:17:13","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T09:17:13","slug":"2023-life-a-year-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/2023-life-a-year-works\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 LIFE: end of the morphological adaptation in La Roza, start of the adaptation of the irrigable area in Fuentes de Ebro and more social involvement"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"9338\" class=\"elementor elementor-9338 elementor-9332\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-f224216 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"f224216\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-51e53dd\" data-id=\"51e53dd\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a8aab8c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a8aab8c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 project has experienced an intense year 2023 with significant progress, both in the implementation of adaptation measures to reduce the risk of flooding in the two planned sections (Alfaro, La Rioja &#8211; Castej\u00f3n, Navarra and Osera de Ebro &#8211; Fuentes de Ebro, in Zaragoza), and in the actions of dissemination, communication, social participation and capacity building and exchange of knowledge and experiences in technical forums.<\/p>\n<p>The Resilience proposal is backed and promoted by the partners, since administrative coordination is one of its keys: the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), through its companies TRAGSA and TRAGSATEC; the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation; the Government of La Rioja; the Government of Navarra, through Gesti\u00f3n Ambiental de Navarra, S.A. (GAN-NIK); the Government of Arag\u00f3n and the Aragonese Water Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The project was approved by the European Commission with a <strong>budget of 13,310,350<\/strong> \u20ac<strong> and 55% European funding <\/strong>.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Milestones among adaptation actions  <\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Zone 1 Alfaro, La Rioja- Castej\u00f3n, Navarra:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2023, the <strong>works for the morphological adaptation of the Ebro in the meander of La Roza, in Alfaro<\/strong>, were completed. This intervention has been carried out by the Confederaci\u00f3n Hidrogr\u00e1fica del Ebro and <strong>has meant the recovery of 22 hectares as a fluvial space<\/strong>. This space has also been included as a protected area in the Natura 2000 Network &#8220;Sotos y Riberas del Ebro&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This intervention, which inaugurated the works of LIFE Ebro Resilience P1, will be completed with the <strong>environmental restoration of the area<\/strong>, which includes planting by the Government of La Rioja.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>project for the reconnection of old river branches in the Soto de Alfaro<\/strong> (Soto de Tamarigal) has been drafted, with the participation of the stakeholders, and will be executed in 2024, regenerating clogged areas of undergrowth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Social participation has been crucial in 2023 in the future of the project to adapt the <strong>meander of El Se\u00f1or\u00edo, in Castej\u00f3n, Navarra, which aims to recover 23 hectares of river space<\/strong> and which will be executed in 2024. The cost and sustainability of each solution and the social and environmental benefits are <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another of the main lines of work has been <strong>social participation<\/strong>, <strong>with more than 40 actions<\/strong>, including meetings of stable groups, which monitor interventions and make proposals; public forums and informative conferences.<\/p>\n<p>The LIFE Project is making an important effort to achieve the involvement of the local population, creating spaces for participation that are a milestone in flood risk management, as there are no previous experiences with the same scope, neither in Spain nor in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the meetings of the Stable Conflict Transformation Group and the so-called co-creation groups, <strong>public sessions and workshops have been held<\/strong> on the following topics  open to the whole society to visit the intervention areas, such as the one carried out in Soto de Alfaro (or Soto de Tamarigal); to learn about the project of El Se\u00f1or\u00edo, in Castej\u00f3n, or for such a novel action as analyzing the future recreational uses of the space freed in the meander of La Roza.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section monitoring posts that will be part of the <strong>virtual platform for monitoring the interventions<\/strong>, a citizen science experience to increase the general knowledge of the river and the actions, has also been defined.<\/p>\n<p>The LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 project also has a <strong>detailed social capacity building plan<\/strong>. A line of action to increase the population&#8217;s knowledge of the river and the phenomenon of floods, for which eight types of informative materials are being prepared and 16 campaigns are planned for different sectors of the population (technicians, educational sector, communicators, primary sector, environmental sector, general public&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>During these months, work has been carried out on the development of educational and informative materials and meetings have been held with interested sectors: education, media and journalism students. For the latter, the conference &#8220;Information and extreme events&#8221; was held.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to participation and social involvement, there <strong>are<\/strong> also <strong>milestones in the dissemination and communication<\/strong> of the project and its philosophy. LIFE Ebro Resilience P1 has reinforced the contents and new information sections of its reference website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\">www.ebroresilience.com<\/a> with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/life-ebro-resilience-p1\/\">specific space for the project<\/a> and has launched an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/life-ebro-resilience-p1\/\">English version<\/a> of the page.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to reach different levels of public, the first one being the riparian population of the areas involved, but also the general public from the primary sector, the educational sector, the local and regional administration, technicians, the media&#8230; For this reason, different information channels have been set up, such as a  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/newsletters\/\">monthly newsletter<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029Va8qjE32phHR9Wfgop3t\">WhatsApp<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/+hnvXDc5u9UM2ZTQ8\">Telegram<\/a> channels and various social networks, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EBROresilience\">X<\/a> (Twitter), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LIFEEbroResilienceP1\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/proyecto-life-ebro-resilience-p1\/\">LinkedIn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lifeebroresilience\/\">Instagram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@ebroresilience\/\">YouTube<\/a> and a Tik-Tok channel is being prepared that will serve to access the young audience with which the project is also working.
