After a year of work, the phase of morphological adaptation of the Ebro River in the meander of La Roza, Alfaro, La Rioja, has been completed.<\/p>\n

This action, which has been carried out by the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation, one of the LIFE partners, constitutes the bulk of the work of the project to mitigate the risk of flooding in this section, in the absence of environmental restoration to be carried out by the Government of La Rioja.<\/p>\n

The intervention is part of the combined section of actions, a series of mitigation measures that together have a general benefit and which includes the project planned in the meander of El Se\u00f1or\u00edo, in Castej\u00f3n, Navarra.<\/p>\n

A total of 22 hectares of river plain have been recovered:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Removing 1,343 meters of defensive dikes that constricted the river and building a smaller defense (899 meters) and away from the riverbed, returning this space to the river.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    River dynamics have been improved:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • A relief channel has been created connecting the river to the La Roza meander.<\/li>\n
    • The drainage capacity of the railroad bridge eyes has been improved.<\/li>\n
    • Invasive flora species have been removed<\/li>\n
    • A new wetland has been generated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The total investment of the intervention, including the forthcoming environmental restoration, is 2.2 million euros, with the support of the European Union’s LIFE financial instrument.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
