The objective of this action was to improve the morphological conditions of the riverbed, reduce the risk of flooding and, finally, carry out an environmental restoration in the meander of the same name.<\/p>\n\n<p>This initiative is one of the four proposals designed to ameliorate the effects of flooding in the confluence zone of the <strong>Ebro and Arag\u00f3n rivers<\/strong>, known as &#8220;<em>Section of combined actions between Alfaro and Castej\u00f3n (Navarra)&#8221;.<\/em> This area includes the works carried out in the &#8220;.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/nacimiento-humedal-la-nava-alfaro\/\"><strong>La Nava<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/a>, &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/the-relief-channel-in-the-meander-of-la-roza-a-riparian-corridor-with-more-continuity-and-complexity-for-habitats\/\">La Roza<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/comienzan-la-restauracion-ambiental-en-el-estajao\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Estajao<\/a><\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/participacion-visita-a-los-sotos-de-alfaro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soto de Alfaro<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;all of them in Alfaro; the &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/phase-1-of-the-environmental-restoration-of-the-ebro-river-in-el-ortigoso-milagro-navarra-is-completed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Ortigoso<\/a><\/strong>in Milagro, and the meander of &#8221; El Se\u00f1or\u00edo &#8220;, all in Alfaro.<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebroresilience.com\/en\/public-information-on-the-projects-for-el-senorio-navarra-and-phase-1-of-the-osera-de-ebro-fuentes-de-ebro-section-zaragoza-approved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Se\u00f1or\u00edo<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;in Castej\u00f3n, both in Navarra.<\/p>\n\n<p>The work at El Estajao, which has been <strong>execution period of 24 months<\/strong> and have had a <strong>total investment of<\/strong> <strong>2,032,792 euros,<\/strong> began with the elimination of the remains of the<strong> productive poplar grove of 21 hectares<\/strong> which had been established in the meander since the 70s of the last century and which had recently been cut down.<\/p>\n\n<p>Simultaneously, the <strong>removal of the flood defense dike<\/strong> that ran around the perimeter of the meander and that was a barrier to the passage of water and wildlife began. <strong>A total of 1,458 meters<\/strong> have been removed from the levee. The materials from these dams have been used in the construction of a new defense 500 meters further inland and with a length of 569 meters. The old facility was located in an area of the meander that was highly exposed to flooding. In order to guarantee this protection, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X9Z1LF_MVM4\">krainer type living wall has been built at the junction of the new<\/a><\/strong> at the junction of the new defense with the existing one. This wall, designed using bioengineering techniques, is made of a wooden framework that absorbs the force of the water and distributes it over the land.
